How to Decide which Concentration is for You
return to How to Declare

Corporate and Organizational Communication
If you want advertising or public relations, or if you are transferring out of Business with ECON 202 or ECON 201 already completed, you probably want to choose Corporate Communication.  This concentration is for people who want to work for organizations, using communication to help the organization.  Corporate Communication is considered a specialist degree, although it could mean more than either advertising or public relations.

Media Studies

If you want to be a journalist, choose Media Studies.  This concentration is considered a specialist degree and involves a love of writing – so don’t choose it if you don’t want to write.

Communication Studies
If you enjoy face-to-face communication, choose Communication Studies.  This concentration is considered a generalist degree that prepares you for a wide variety of career choices that involve working with people to solve communication problems.  It is particularly useful for anyone pursing a career that demands persuasive communication.
