Qualifications: Awards

 

Outstanding Student in Each Concentration

Students from each concentration will be recognized for excellence both in and outside the classroom.  Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:

 

ÿ        Passed at least 100 cumulative hours at the College

 

ÿ        Priority will be given to students who demonstrate a significant impact in the concentration (e.g. grades and contributions to their field of study)

ÿ        Passed at least 21 hours within concentration

ÿ        Documented excellence in outside areas such as internships, independent studies, or bachelor’s essays will be considered.

ÿ        Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and minimum of 3.3 in the major

ÿ        Demonstrated excellence or service outside the classroom (e.g. academic or social organizations, volunteering, etc.)

 

Outstanding Service Award

 

This award is given to no more than five students who demonstrate excellence outside the classroom in service to the College, Department and/or local community. Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:

 

 

ÿ        Graduating Senior Status

 

ÿ        Minimum GPA of 2.0 overall and in the Major

 

ÿ        Primary criteria for this award are service outside the classroom to the College, Department, or community.

 

ÿ        Service to the Department or the communication discipline will be strongly considered.

 

 

Outstanding Senior/Departmental Honors

This is considered the most prestigious of all awards issued by the Department.  Recipients will be honored during commencement ceremonies in May and should demonstrate the following minimum requirements:

 

ÿ        Graduating Senior status

ÿ        Minimum GPA of 3.5 overall and in the major.

ÿ        Demonstrated significant and recognizable achievements outside the classroom including service/contributions to the College and/or Department of Communication.
