Q: What is Convocation?
A: Convocation is an official event of the College of Charleston. It serves to welcome new students to the College, familiarizes them with the institution’s traditions and history, and encourages them to consider their own intellectual journey.
Q: I am a new student at the College of Charleston. Do I have to attend Convocation?
A: Yes. All new undergraduate students are expected to attend Convocation. It is the first formal event of your college career, just as Commencement is the last.
Q: I am not a new undergraduate student, but I am interested in attending. May I?
A: Yes. Although you are not required to attend, you are welcome to do so.
Q: I live off-campus and will be driving into town. What time do I need to arrive on campus and where should I park?
A. Student surface parking lots will be open for your use at no charge. Each student should arrive on campus in time to attend his or her scheduled group session, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. Call Parking Services at 843.953.7834 for a listing of student lots and their locations.
Q: What should I wear?
A: You should wear "business casual" clothing appropriate to an official college activity with faculty.
Q: I have a disability and will need special assistance with Convocation-related activities and/or materials. Whom do I contact?
A: Contact Deborah Mihal in the Office of Disability Services at 843.953.1431.
Q: Who do I contact for more information?
A: Call the Office of New Student Programs at 843.953.2017 or the Office of Academic Affairs 843.953.5527.
