SafeZone Advocacy Award

Description: The Safe Zone Human Award recognizes a student, faculty, staff member or student organization for their efforts of enhancing a welcoming campus, spreading awareness of the need to combat intolerance, breaking down barriers, and advocating for students facing difficulties or discrimination due to their sexual orientation. The recipient of this award is an advocate who demonstrates an ability to encourage and support students in the LGBT community who may have obstacles to overcome or special circumstances that would preclude them from continuing with their education, or aspire to contribute to the needs of today’s society.

Criteria: Nominee should have knowledge about issues related to gender and sexual orientation.  Fosters greater understanding concerning sexual orientation and gender identity in the College community. Nominee is an advocate and demonstrates an ability to encourage and support students in the LGBT community who may have obstacles to overcome or special circumstances that would preclude them from continuing with their education, or aspire to contribute to the needs of today’s society.

Must not have received an ExCEL Award within the past three (3) years.
