Description: The Safe Zone Advocacy Award recognizes a student, faculty, staff member or student organization for their efforts of enhancing the campus climate, spreading awareness of the need to combat intolerance, breaking down barriers, and advocating for students facing difficulties or discrimination due to their sexual orientation.
Criteria: Nominees can be permanent and full-time employees at the College for at least three years, or currently enrolled-full-time students who are in good standing with the College. Nominee should have knowledge about issues related to gender and sexual orientation. Fosters greater understanding concerning sexual orientation and gender identity in the College community. Nominee is an advocate and demonstrates an ability to encourage and support students in the LGBT community who may have obstacles to overcome or special circumstances that would preclude them from continuing with their education, or aspire to contribute to the needs of today’s society.
