Avery Scholarship

The Avery Scholarship is named after the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture. Established at the College of Charleston in 1985, Avery seeks to collect, preserve and document the history of African Americans in Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry. The College has created the Avery Scholarship Program to help underrepresented freshmen and transfer students fund an excellent education.

    Program Details

There is no application for an Avery Scholarship. Selection is competitive and is based on a combination of a student’s overall academic profile and financial need. Priority will be given to legal residents of South Carolina who were admitted by and have completed the FAFSA by March 1. Other information will come from a student’s admissions application. Students receiving an Avery Scholarship are not eligible to receive the Palmetto Promise.

Students who have participated in TRIO programs, a College of Charleston program such as College Experience or a College of Charleston bridge program with a South Carolina technical college, or similar programs, will receive strong consideration.
