The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) realizes that the country's strong science and technology community provides a critical advantage in the development and implementation of counter-terrorist measures and other DHS objectives. The DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program is intended for students interested in pursuing the basic science and technology innovations that can be applied to the DHS mission.
This education program is intended to ensure a diverse and highly talented science and technology community to achieve the DHS mission and objectives. Areas of study that are eligible include: physical, mathematical, computer and information, life, and social sciences, psychology, selected humanities, and engineering. The Hibernian Society of Charleston Scholarship
|

|
|
The Hibernian Society Scholarship is available to current College of Charleston students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and intent to remain in the Charleston area after graduation. Applications are available online and in the Office of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs or from the Hibernian Society, 105 Meeting St., Charleston, SC 29401.

Hollings Scholarship Program

The NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program provides up to $8,000 in academic assistance and a 10-week paid summer internship with a housing subsidy. Students must be U.S. citizens and major in a NOAA-related discipline including, but not limited to, oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology, geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs and missions. Applications are available from NOAA's website.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarships
|

|
|
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation offers a number of scholarships and grants to students with financial need. College of Charleston students would be most likely to receive the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship or the Graduate Scholarship.
Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship
The Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is for students transferring from a two-year institution to a four-year. The student has to have sophomore status, or a recent graduate, unmet financial need and a 3.5 GPA. Students apply through the Faculty Representative at their two-year institution. The deadline to apply is February 1, although most Faculty Representatives will set an earlier date.
Graduate Scholarship
The Graduate Scholarship is for college seniors or recent graduates that are planning to attend graduate or professional school starting in the fall. Students must have unmet financial need and a 3.5 GPA. Students apply through the Faculty Representative at their undergraduate institution. The deadline to apply is March 15, although most Faculty Representatives will set an earlier date. The College of Charleston Faculty Representative is Dr. Trisha Folds-Bennett.

Phillip M. Fields Scholarship Award

|
The South Carolina Aquatic Plant Management Society seeks applications for its annual Phillip M. Fields Scholarship Award. Scholarship funds may be used by the recipient to cover costs associated with education and research expenses. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as full time undergraduate or graduate students in an accredited college or university in the United States. Course work or research in an area related to the biology, ecology or management of aquatic plants in the Southeast is also required. Radio & Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas Scholarship

|
|
The Radio & Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas (RTNDAC) Scholarship will be awarded to a rising junior or senior enrolled in a South Carolina college or university. Students must be pursuing a major course of study with emphasis in broadcast or electronic journalism. More information and application instructions are available on their website .

Sigma Chi Fraternity Scholarship
|
|
|
|
The Iota Epsilon Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at the College of Charleston will be awarding a $250 scholarship to an entering freshman male. Applicants must have a 3.5 or higher high school GPA, minimum 1100 on the SAT or 25 on the ACT, and display superior leadership qualities and character. Applications are available online and in the Office of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs. There is no obligation to the fraternity in order to apply for or receive the scholarship.

The Tylenol Scholarship
|
|
|
|
The makers of the TYLENOL Family of Products will award 20 $5,000 scholarships and 150 $1,000 scholarships for higher education to students who demonstrate leadership in community activities and major or who intend to major in areas that will lead to careers in health-related fields and are residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
You may apply to the TYLENOL Scholarship if you will be attending an undergraduate or graduate course of study in the Fall 2007 at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational-technical school. This includes students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course of study who have one or more years of school remaining.

USA Funds Access to Scholarship Program
|
|
|
|
The USA Funds Access to Scholarship Program applications are available in January and have a deadline of February 15 for the next academic year and can obtained from their webpage. The program will assist students in achieving their higher-education goals by awarding a total of up to $3.2 million in new scholarships, $1,500 per scholarship. Applicants from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and all U.S. Territories and commonwealths are eligible for the program.
Additionally, up to 50 percent of the scholarship awards will be targeted to applicants who are members of an ethnic minority group or have a documented physical disability. Students must demonstrate financial need and have a family income of less than $35,000.

Watson-Brown Foundation Scholarships
|
|
|
|
The primary mission of the Watson-Brown Foundation is to provide college scholarships to area students based on merit and need. This internal scholarship program is entirely managed by the staff of the Foundation. Scholarship awards are decided by the Board of Trustees during its regular second quarter meeting. The Foundation awards individual annual scholarships of $3,000 and $5,000. Approximately 150 new scholarships and 200 renewal scholarships are awarded each year.
Scholarships are reserved for students from Georgia or South Carolina who attend four- year, accredited U.S. colleges and universities. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors and current undergraduate students. To be considered, scholarship applications -- complete with required support documents -- must be postmarked by February 15.

Young Entrepreneur Awards

The NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business) Young Entrepreneur Award program was established to raise awareness among the nation's youth of the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America. Each year the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation will grant at least 400 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards nationwide in the amount of $1,000 each.
