Departmental Policy on Lab Equiment
  1. When a student checks-in, all equipment on the list should be present and in good condition. If an item is damaged or missing it should be replaced immediately. If an item is damaged but usable, an indication of damage should be made on the check-in sheet.
  2. After check-in, the student is then deemed responsible for all of the equipment in the drawer. It is the student's responsibility to continue to maintain the equipment and replace any lost or damaged items by checking needed items out at the stockroom (Room 327).
  3. Any common equipment is to be returned clean and in usable condition. Any damage to or loss of common equipment should be reported to the instructor immediately.
  4. No chemicals should be stored in the drawers unless instructed to do so.
  5. A student is billed for each lab separately.
  6. Check-out occurs on or before the date indicated by the laboratory instructor. If a student withdraws from the laboratory, it becomes his or her responsibility to check-out. If a student chooses, he or she may check-out during a normal laboratory period with the laboratory assistant, if he or she has notified the assistant of the intent to do so. Failure to check-out on or before the indicated date results in a $5.00 check-out plus breakage fees.
  7. At check-out all equipment is to be clean, dry and in usable condition. All missing or damaged items should be replaced at this time if they have not been previously.
  8. Any items left in the drawer after check-out becomes the property of the college.
  9. Prices of items are posted in each laboratory, but change without notice. A maximum of $15.00 per item will be charge.
  10. For students owing money for breakage, a bill will be received from the instructor during check-out. A bill will be available from the instructor for those students who did not check-out. This bill is taken by the student to the Bursar's office for payment prior to the lecture final examination. When the bill is paid the student returns the bill and receipt (stamped paid by the Bursar's office) to the Chemistry Department.
  11. Students who have not paid their bill by the start of the next term will be assessed an additional $5.00 late charge and will not be allowed to check-in for further chemistry labs until their bill has been paid.
