Independent Programs

If the CofC programs or bi-lateral exchange options do not meet students' needs or interests, there are independent programs that offer numerous opportunities for study in different subject areas around the world. An independent program is defined as any other US university or a third-party program provider that facilitates enrollment at a host university or institution abroad. Students can study abroad with an independent program for a semester, year or summer session.

When studying on an independent program, students must have the courses pre-approved before leaving for their program to ensure that the classes taken abroad will be accepted by CofC as transfer credit. When participating in an independent program, students will not be charged CofC tuition, instead they will pay a specified fee directly to their program. In many cases, this will include tuition and academic fees at the host school, housing, some meals, and support services. Programs vary, so check with each individual provider to know what is included. Students interested in independent programs must meet with Sarah Simmonite in the CIE before departure.
