Connecting to Remote Access services at the College of Charleston

Windows XP using Aventail VPN Client

 

1)      Go to https://access.cofc.edu

2)      Using the virtual keyboard, enter your cougar username and password (same as email name and password).  NOTE: You must use your pointer from your mouse to put in your username and password. If your password has capitol letters or additional symbols, click the Shift button. Click the Log in button when finished.  For further information on why we use this keyboard login, go to the link in the Q&A section of these instructions.

 

 

 

 

3)      Once you have logged in you will see the page below. On the right side of the page you will see the Access Agents heading with an Install Software link below. Click on this link to install the VPN Client Software.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4)      You will be directed to the following page. Click the Install button to continue.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

5)      A box will popup titled “Aventail Connect” as seen below.

 

 

 

 

 

 

6)      Once installed, the following webpage will appear.

 

 

7)      Click Log Out to log off and close the Access.cofc.edu web page.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8)      On your desktop you should see an icon similar to the one to the right.

 

 

9)      Double click on the Aventail VPN Connection icon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

10)  The following box will appear. Enter your username and password and click connect.  In order to use the Aventail Connect VPN you must have the college provided antivirus loaded on your computer. As a college employee you are eligible to download and install College provided Antivirus software.  

 

 

11)  Once you connect, an icon will appear in your system tray. Once you want to disconnect from the VPN right click the icon in the system tray and click disconnect.
