Faculty & Staff -- Campus Wireless Network

The campus wireless network provides the College of Charleston community with secure wireless network access within the boundaries of the downtown campus.

Mobile access to information improves our ability to communicate. Faculty, staff and students have the ability to check email or their schedules from most places around campus. Access to the Internet is no longer tied to a computer in an office, lab or classroom. Wireless network technology is also beneficial for gaining network access in locations that are difficult, expensive, or inconvenient to wire.

Faculty and staff who receive laptops from Information Technology as their primary office computers will have wireless access pre-configured. Accessing the network is as easy as using your Cougars logon name and password -- the same one you use to access your e-mail and office computer. If you wish to configure your personal laptop for the network, please follow the instructions listed below.

Using the "CampusWide" network? Please see this important message concerning your wireless access.

What You Need

Supported Products

  • Wireless Cards

All major wireless vendors, such as Linksys, D-Link, etc. will work on the campus wireless network.

For specific questions about wireless cards, contact Helpdesk at helpdesk@cofc.edu.

  • Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)

All users interested in connecting to the campus network using a PDA without integrated wireless must purchase PDAs that come with a PC card slot/sleeve and also purchase a wireless card. In addition, integrated or external wireless cards must support the WPA encryption standard.

Where to get it

  • If your laptop does not contain an integrated wireless device and you are interested in purchasing a wireless device for your own personal use, please contact the manufacturer of your laptop (Dell, HP, Apple, etc.) for recommendations on compatible wireless cards.
  • If you are interested in purchasing a wireless device through your department for college use, please contact Helpdesk.
