Fetch (FTP for Macintosh)

 
 

Step 1: Download Fetch
Fetch used to place all your webpage documents on the server to allow your page to be viewed via the web.

Begin by downloading FETCH and fill out the form and fill out the form.

A download site will be emailed to you within 24 hours. Once you have downloaded the software, double-click it to install FETCH.

 
 
 

Step 2: Open Fetch

To open Fetch, double-click on the Fetch application icon. This should open the "New Connection" window.

Step 3: Connect to Spinner

Enter the following information:

Host: Type “spinner.cofc.edu ” (no quotes)
User ID: Type your spinner login
Password: Type your spinner password

Step 4: Creating a FTP Shortcut for Easier Access
If this is your computer you can create a login shortcut (bookmark) that will allow you to access your account without having to key in all the information each time.

To create a shortcut:

From the FILE menu choose SAVE SHORTCUT

Name will be "spinner.cofc.edu". You can change this to read SPINNER if you’d like.

Click "SAVE"

Open the FETCH shortcut for your spinner account by clicking on the "SHORTCUTS" dropdown and choosing "spinner.cofc.edu" or by clicking on the shortcut icon you just created on your desktop.

Enter your Spinner password and click OK.

Step 5: Uploading/Downloading Files Using Fetch

Your Spinner account should show in the window with all your correct folders.

Open your "WWW" folder in your spinner account by double-clicking on it. You should see the various "html" files and picture files associated with each page or nothing if you are using your account for the first time.

To Add Files to Spinner:
The easiest way to add files to Spinner, or to FTP files to any server, locate them on your computer and drag them into the Fetch window (show above). Adding files to the server is referred to as "Put Files".

To "Get" Files from Spinner:
The easiest way to copy files from your Spinner account, or any FTP server, to your computer is to locate the files on Spinner and drag them onto your computer desktop or other location on your machine.

You are done! Remember to "reload or refresh" your browser so you may view the changes made to your web page. To get files from the server is referred to as "Get".
