About Remote Access

Remote access allows users to dial-in to the college's network from a computer at home using a standard modem. Once connected, the phone line emulates a physical network connection, and users can access the internet and college mail servers.

It is important to note that the Faculty/Staff modems typically connect at a speed of less than 56K. This is about 50 times slower than the speed of the average cable modem. Faculty/Staff that find these limitations to be incompatible with their professional needs are encouraged to obtain home internet access from local commercial service providers instead of using the college's remote access.

Also, there are a very limited number of remote access telephone lines available. Users that stay connected to the system for an extended period of time will be automatically disconnected.

Application for Remote Access

If you need occassional, short-duration network access from home, fill out the Application for Remote Access and return it to Information Technology via campus mail or fax (3-2461). Alternatively, you may pick up an application at the Information Technology office (J.C. Long Building, Room 322).
