Student and Teacher in Computer Classroom

Summer 2006 Institute

The summer 2006 institute was a two week institute that focused on introducing WebCT and ways to achieve pedagogical aims through the use of related technology strategies and software packages. Upon completion of the Institute, participants should have a functional WebCT class. The Institute was open to all Full Time and Adjunct Faculty. Those selected to participate received a stipend and a laptop.

Institute Goals

After completion of the institute, faculty will be able to:

  • Incorporate effective technology tools in their teaching
  • Create learning communities
  • Assess the impact of technology on learning in their course's
  • Incorporate theories of design in their course's
  • Incorporate pedagogical principles in their course's
  • Investigate legal and ethical practices in teaching with technology
  • Incorporate web research strategies
  • Incorporate effective communication theory in their courses
  • Use WebCT as the Course Management Software
  • Use Dreamweaver as the main web editor
  • Use PowerPoint for class presentations and lecture notes
  • Use Photoshop to create and/or edit images and graphics
  • Use a smart classrooms and the campus wireless network
  • Digitize course materials by scanning and converting file formats
  • Use iMovie/Adobe Premier to create and edit video
  • Create self assessment modules for their course's
  • Create student assessment modules for their course's

Outcomes

Faculty will re-design one course to be delivered using WebCT support and assist the liaisons with an investigation of the effectiveness of of technology on enhancing learning by agreeing to collect data and report on some aspect of their use of technology in their lessons.
