Faculty Technology Center

The Faculty Technology Center (FTC) is a learning center where faculty can explore new technologies and methods, and develop instructional materials for their courses. The FTC offers its resources free of charge for College of Charleston faculty.

The FTC is available on a walk-in basis; however it is recommended that you make a reservation in advance to ensure that the required equipment is available when you arrive. Please contact our main office at 953-5569 to make a reservation. If you need assistance in the FTC, please make an appointment with your instructional technologist and they will be happy to assist.

The FTC is located in the JC Long Building, Room 317. If you don't have a prior reservation, please stop by the main office in Room 322. Someone there will add you to the calendar and let you in the Faculty Technology Center.

FTC Equipment

Each piece of equipment is named. Please reference this name when you call to make a reservation. This will ensure that you are reserving the machine that meets your needs. To make a reservation call 953-5569.

  • 1 Mac G4 primarily used for video editing and consisting of VCR and Analog to Digital Video converter.
  • 1 Mac G5 (machine name: Hogwarts) soley used for video editing and consisting of VCR and Analog to Digital Video converter.
  • 2 Dell GX 270 (machine name: Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw)
  • HP scanner (machine name: Moody). Connected to Ravenclaw.
  • 7:1 multiple CD burner tower
  • Elmo document camera
  • Starboard - electronic whiteboard panel
  • Color laser printer

FTC Software

The FTC has specialized equipment and software available to enable faculty to import, author, and manipulate text and graphic images, construct and manage web sites, and create animations and computer-based video/audio presentations. The equipment specifications and software in the FTC are beyond those that a faculty member may have available on their office computer.
