How to Obtain a WebCT Class

WebCT classes are no longer automatically generated.
To use WebCT, you must now "activate" any course in which you want a WebCT presence.
How to activate a course for WebCT
Giving your course a WebCT presence is easy and can be done in minutes through Cougar Trail!
- Go to Cougar Trail on the web at https://cougartrail.cofc.edu or enter from the College's homepage as you normally would.
- Within the Faculty user panel click on Log in.
- Next click Continue
- You will now be at the site map. (screenshot A )
- Above General Info the term will be displayed. If the term is correct go to Step 4. If not follow the bullets below:
- Under General Info click Select Term (screenshot B )
- From the dropdown window choose the appropriate term (ex. 2005 FALL)
- Click Submit.
- You should now be back at the site map and the term you chose should appear above General Info.
- From the site map, under Courses, click on Activate your WebCT Classes. This will take you to the Activate your WebCT Classes window.
- A list of all your courses for the selected term should appear on the screen (if not contact the Registrar's Office. The course may still be assigned to "staff" or may be incorrectly assigned to someone else.)
- In the right-hand column, entitled WebCT Delivery Code, click the checkbox next to each course you wish to have a WebCT presence. You don't have to chose them all, only those in which you wish to use WebCT. You can activate others later if you change your mind. (screenshot C )
- Click Submit. By clicking Submit it triggers SIS to send your course and all registered students immediately to WebCT.
- The new window will now be divided into two groups; those that don't have a WebCT presence will still have the WebCT Delivery Code column, and those that now have a WebCT presence will not. (screenshot D )
- To exit this window click on the site map link.
- To verify that the activation went accordingly login to WebCT. You should see the term and the class you just activated. If you choose the class and go to Control Panel > Manage Course > Manage Students you should see all the students that are currently registered for your class. There may be a short time lag between the "submit" and the arrival of the course in WebCT. If you don't see your course immediately, wait two minutes and check again.
- You have successfully activated your course(s).
Activating a course must be done once a semester per course. Remember, once a course has been activated in WebCT SIS will automatically update the student list as students drop and add.
Note: When a student "drops" a course, for any reason, SIS will automatically remove them from your class roll and your WebCT class. When this happens, all online assigments, quizzes and grades will be removed. Please be diligent in keeping your grades in an additional place during add/drop.
This does not happen when a student "withdraws". In a withdrawal situation the student is denied access to your WebCT class but all assignments, quizzes and grades stay intact in WebCT.
