Assignment 4: Integration and Newton's Method

Due Tuesday, December 5, at the end of the last class of the semester.

The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus: Section 5.3, Exercises 6 and 28.

Indefinite Integrals: Section 5.4, Exercises 2, 6 and 14.

Integration by Substitution: do Section 5.5, Exercises 2, 8, 16, 50, and then verify each of the indefinite integrals by differentiation. (It is time to start practicing the Chain Rule!)

Newton's Method: Section 4.9, Exercises 4 and 6. Give an educated guess about the accuracy of your answer in 6.

Some additional review exercises

This is a small selection of exercises on selected topics from the whole course, to start your exam review. These are not part of the assignment for grading, but I will give you feedback on any work that you want to show me.

Chapter 2 Review: Exercises 2, 4, 10, 42 (pages 175-177).

Chapter 3 Review: Exercises 34, 91 (pages 268-270).

Section 4.4, l'Hospital's Rule: Exercises 1, 6, 20, 22.

Section 4.5, Curve Sketching: Exercise 18.

Chapter 4 Review: Exercises 6, 58 (pages 360-362).
