Addlestone Library

The Marlene & Nathan Addlestone Library is the main library at the College of Charleston and is also home to Special Collections, the South Carolina Historical Society Archives, the Center for Student Learning, the main campus computer lab, the Scholars Studio, and Starbucks. 

This library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law. (Title 44 United States Code). The designated contact for FDLP is Heather Gilbert.”

Avery Research Center

The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture, a division of the College of Charleston, was established to collect, preserve, and make public the unique historical and cultural heritage of African Americans in Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Marine Resources Library

A collaborative enterprise of the College of Charleston, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Marine Resources Division, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Marine Resources Library supports the curricular and research needs of the faculty and students in the College of Charleston’s graduate and undergraduate programs in marine biology and the work of professional researchers of the partner agencies.

Special Collections & SCHS

South Carolina Historical Society Archives

Established in 1855, the South Carolina Historical Society (SCHS) is dedicated to expanding, preserving, and making accessible their collection, and encouraging interest and pride in the rich history of the state. The South Carolina Historical Society Archives are  located on the third floor of the Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library. The SCHS Museum is located in the Fireproof Building at 100 Meeting Street in Charleston.

Special Collections

The Special Collections Department of the College of Charleston was founded to support the teaching and learning mission of the College of Charleston and to promote scholarship on the South Carolina Lowcountry and the broader Atlantic World. It is located on the third floor of the Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library. Its holdings include rare books, pamphlets, and manuscript collections related to the history and culture of the South Carolina Lowcountry, the archives of the College of Charleston, the Jewish Heritage Collection, and the SC LGBTQ: Oral Histories, Archives, and Outreach Project.
