New Version of WebCT

WebCT has a new and improved version (WebCT 4.0).  Starting this semester WebCT and SIS will be integrated.  This means that professors who wish to use WebCT will not have to start from scratch. Class rolls will be up to date and accurate.  Professors who wish to utilize the features of WebCT can use the pre-formatted basic template in WebCT to add enhancements including the syllabus, calendar, discussion groups, chat rooms, and other course management tools such as a grade book and online testing and surveys.

New Look and Feel
This newest version is user friendly and contains point of use tutorials called “course design wizards.”  These “design wizards” provide step-by-step guides of common course tasks, including setting up a course Homepage, Syllabus, Organizer Pages, Content Modules, Discussions, Mail, Calendar and Chat.

Integrated Content Modules

Faculty designers can create content modules offline using applications such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft FrontPage, and Microsoft Powerpoint. These objects can be imported directly into WebCT.

This new version of WebCT also includes an HTML editor with spell-check, providing course designers easy "What You See is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) content creation and editing capabilities, making it easier than ever for designers to create and maintain content within the WebCT course environment.

Special Enhancements
Enhancements make the student experience with Web CT much more productive.  In both the assignment and assessment areas, students can now see a quick summary of which assignments and assessments are available, which are already late, and which are due within the next 48 hours.

Faculty and Student Help with WebCT
The  Academic Computing staff are doing their best to make Web CT as easy as possible.  They have provided a Web site for faculty as well as students for frequently asked questions, tutorials, handouts, procedures and time savers.  Included at this site is a downloadable index card sized handout that you may give to your students that discusses how to login, how to use the browser checker and how to logout.
