Information for Prospective Students
Welcome to the College of Charleston Music Department! Please explore our web site and discover the special place that exists here. Our program, combining advanced training with a quality liberal arts education and set in the midst of historic Charleston, offers students a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere usually found only in major urban centers.
Campus Visits
If you would like to visit us, please contact our administrative assistant Richard Marcus by phone, (843) 953-5927, or e-mail, marcusr@cofc.edu. During your visit you will be able to meet faculty and students in your area and visit an ensemble rehearsal or a music class. You can also arrange a campus tour.
Application Process
Students should complete the College of Charleston Admissions Application. There is not a separate application for the Music Department; however, an audition (for the performance concentration) or an interview (for the music theory/composition or music history concentrations) is required to declare a music major. We encourage you to be in touch with a professor in your area to help guide you through the admissions process as well to advise you in registering for courses.
Scholarships
Scholarship assistance is available for a select number of music majors. Awards are based on performance ability and potential and are normally renewable provided satisfactory academic and musical progress is demonstrated. Scholarship auditions are held in January and February.
