C of C Researchers Receive National Science Foundation Grants

Chemistry Professor Charles Beam (right) will involve students in a National Science Foundation-funded research project that he and C of C colleague Jason Overby will be leading.

College of Charleston Chemistry and Education faculty have received separate grants from the National Science Foundation.

Chemistry/Biochemistry Professors Charles Beam and Jason Overby have received NSF research funding. C of C students will be heavily involved in the three year $182,000 project called “Regioselective Syntheses of Heterocycles and their Applications.”

Meta Van Sickle, Associate Professor of Foundations, Secondary and Special Education, and two colleagues have received a $497,753 grant (annually for three years) from the National Science Foundation for support of their project entitled “PK-12 Lowcountry Science Partners for Inquiry Teaching and Learning.” The research is a joint project between the C of C’s School of Education and the Medical University of South Carolina.
