Gospel Choir to Perform on Good Morning America as a Part of the “50 States” Tour November 13, 2002
The College of Charleston’s Gospel Choir, under the direction of Johnifer Q. Fashion, has been invited to perform on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Wednesday Nov. 13, on the steps of the Dock Street Theatre, 135 Church Street. WCIV-TV4 will be assisting in this exciting, live broadcast. Monday, Nov. 11, GMA will be leaving its Times Square studio and going on the road again, continuing ABC News’ “50 States” tour across America with a special weeklong southern swing. Diane Sawyer, Charles Gibson, Robin Roberts and Tony Perkins will give viewers a taste of the Old South, and the new, when they showcase everything from the natural wonder of the Shenandoah, to the southern hospitality of historic Charleston, to the hottest spots on the shore of Miami’s South Beach. The gospel choir, comprised of 150 voices, is a National Collegiate Gospel Choir Southeast award winner. Its members have sung to standing room only audiences across the state, on both the East and West Coasts of the United States, the Caribbean, as well as in France. The ensemble is noted for its spellbinding, spirited performances, which contributed to their serving as the opening act for gospel legends Kirk Franklin and Darius Brooks. GMA kicked off the yearlong series on April 29, 2002 when the program originated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Throughout the year, GMA and “World News Tonight” have continued to report from the road, giving viewers a look at real life in America, as they broadcast from the largest cities to the smallest towns, capturing the unique spirit of America and Americans who do extraordinary things everyday. GMA is a two-hour, live program, co-anchored by Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer, airing Monday through Friday, 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. on the ABC Television Network. Contact:Virginia Friedman |
