The College of Charleston School of Education has announced the 2002-2003 Goizueta Foundation Reach to Teach Scholarship recipients. These five individuals, chosen for their commitment to South Carolina schools and children, will receive $4,000 a year for up to three years to complete their education degrees at the College of Charleston. It’s a little known part of Charleston history that America’s first Memorial Day-style ceremony was held in the city’s Hampton Race Course (now Hampton Park) on May, 1 1865, just weeks after the Civil War ended. Commencements Set for May 11-12

The College of Charleston will holds its outdoor undergraduate commencement on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12. Approximately 1,300 members of the Class of 2002 are expected take the traditional walk across The Cistern to receive their hard-earned diplomas. The ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. The speaker will be Edward Villella, America’s most celebrated male dancer.
