The GIS database is currently assuming a form that researchers and the public can begin to use. It operates under the latest version of ArcView GIS® and its public interface, ArcIMS®.
These powerful programs are flexible and sophisticated, and they require significant customization. That means the GIS is still being edited and optimized to promote its utility and convenience. The good news is you can still use it, even as we continue to refine it. Hence, as time passes by, you will find it progressively more useful, and you will be able to conduct more sophisticated search routines. With every new month, we continue to add to it more historical and scientific data, and we refine and correct its contents and operating abilities. We are creating new commands and improving the information and reporting structures; we are increasing its searching abilities and devising new search parameters. We are continuing to simplify the user-interface to make searching more intuitive.
Initially, the search engine may seem rudimentary and one-dimensional. However, this is only as we transition to a more dynamic and multi-dimensional data-searching environment in which users can actually manipulate the primary data to suit their particular research needs. We want to hear comments from users about the database, including any suggested additions, revisions and refinements. We also welcome Egyptologists and their students working in the Theban necropolis to submit any of their data as they deem appropriate for inclusion in the database. Write to us for details. Thank you for your interest and your patience.
