Note to students who are under 18 years of age.

If you are 17 years of age or younger, you must obtain the written consent of your parents before participating in research.  A parental consent form is provided for you (to print out) on the page below.  Once your parent has signed the form, make a few photocopies of it.  Give the original signed form to your Psychology 103 professor who will then forward it to the Psychology Department’s Participant Pool Committee.  Take a photocopy of the signed form with you to each study you attend and present it to the investigator at the beginning of the study.

You will not be assigned a password and therefore be unable to sign-up for experiments until this form is processed by the Participant Pool Committee.  This can take 1 or 2 days, so be sure to do this ahead of time as you plan to sign up for experiments

Click here for a pdf of the consent form or print this page and have your parents sign it.

PARENTAL CONSENT FORM

I have given permission for ____________________________________ to participate this semester in scientific studies in the field of psychology.  These studies involve topics commonly covered in the introductory psychology course; examples include short-term memory, visual perception, group behavior, attitude formation, and so on.  The research usually involves paper-and-pencil assessments given by advanced psychology students as part of their coursework.  All research is carefully screened and supervised by the student researcher's professor.  Your son or daughter will also be free to discontinue the study at anytime if they should wish to do so.

The Department of Psychology would like to offer to all students enrolled in Psychology 103 (General Psychology) the opportunity to participate and learn from research experiences.  However, because your son or daughter is not yet 18, and cannot legally give his or her consent, then you must give your consent.  In addition, your child must also give his or her assent.  If both of you agree to do so, please sign below:
