Garrett W. Milliken received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Memphis. After completing postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Texas Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine, he taught psychology at Auburn University before joining the faculty of the College of Charleston in 1997.

His interests in psychology are wide-ranging. Dr. Milliken is particularly interested in Behavioral Neuroscience and the comparative study of animal behavior.

His major areas of interest are in Prosimian behavior and the evolution of primate behavior. Dr. Milliken is particularly interested in the characterization of laterality, hand structure and manipulative abilities as well as neural plasticity in motor and sensory cortex.

Dr. Milliken is a member of the American Society of Primatologists, the Animal Behavior Society, the American Psychological Society and the American Psychological Association.
