The rules and regulations that comprise our student Honor Code, Code of Conduct and Alcohol/Drug Policy are the framework for preserving a community of civility. Students may be accountable to both outside authorities and the College for acts which constitute violations of law and of the codes and policies outlined in our Student Handbook.

• The College has the discretionary privilege to address allegations of misconduct which occur off campus that violate student conduct and discipline policies or regulations when
  (1) the alleged misconduct indicates the student may be a threat to the safety or security of the members of the College community or College property, functions or facilities, or
  (2) the alleged misconduct involves academic work or any records, documents or identifications of the College.
• Specifically, the College may choose to exercise jurisdiction over off-campus incidents under section
  (1) above where the alleged misconduct involves:

(a) rape or sexual assault, any other physical assault, threats of violence, or conduct that threatens the health or safety of any person;

(b) stalking or sexual harassment;

(c) possession or use of weapons, explosives, or destruction devices;

(d) manufacture, sale or distribution of controlled substances;

(e) hate crime;

(f) hazing;

(g) conduct which would constitute felony burglary, robbery, theft, etc.

Disciplinary action at the College may be initiated regardless of whether an outcome from the off campus criminal proceedings has been reached. The outcome from criminal proceedings has no bearing on the College of Charleston student judicial process or sanctions.
