EXCEPTION TO ALLOW INELIGIBLE STUDENT TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT

Occasionally, due to extenuating circumstances, a student may participate in a ceremony before he/she is eligible to do so. The faculty will allow this by Petition if the student meets certain strict requirements. Students who are eligible according to the requirements listed below may submit a Petition to Participate in the Commencement Ceremony to the Assistant Registrar for Graduation, Degree Audit & Transfer Credit in the Registrar's Office. This form can be obtained in the Registrar's Office or by following the link below.

PLEASE NOTE : Students approved to participate in commencement by petition will not be recognized for Latin honors at the ceremony.

Requirements for approval include:

• Currently having both a cumulative and major GPA of 2.000 or better
• You may not be registered in more than 18 hours in the semester you petition to walk
• No more than one course (max 4 hours of credit) is needed subsequent to the term prior to commencement. You can not be registered for more than 4 hours subsequent to the spring term if petitioning for May or subsequent to the fall term if petitioning for December.
• You must apply to graduate (or update if already applied) AND be registered for all courses needed to graduate, including the 4 (or fewer) hours in the subsequent term before you submit the petition.

Please note:

• Your name may not be printed on the commencement program unless this petition is approved three weeks before the ceremony.
• We reserve the right to revoke approval if circumstances change that make you ineligible for petition approval.

APPROVAL or DISAPPROVAL OF PETITIONS WILL BE SENT EXCLUSIVELY TO YOUR EDISTO EMAIL ACCOUNT AFTER THE LAST DAY TO WITHDRAW IN THE SEMESTER . If you meet all of the requirements above and submit your form in a timely and complete manner, you will be approved.
