NCATE Visit Technology Instructions
Using the Flash Drive
For the duration of your visit the School of Education
is providing you with a USB flash drive. This drive will allow you to save files
as well as move files from one machine to another. In addition, we have placed
the entire CofC Accrediation website on the drive to allow you access to the files
without a network connection. You will still need a network connection to access
some areas of the website such as links to outside websites.
- Remove the colored, plastic cap from the drive.
- Insert the drive into the USB port on the back of your laptop or into the
USB port on the left side of the monitor on the stationary computers.
- When you first insert it a window of choices may appear. Choose
Open Folder to View Files. This opens a window that will display the
contents of the flash drive.
- If no window appears when you insert the drive double-click
on the My Computer icon on your desktop. You
should see a Removable Drive listed (usually
listed as drive E: or F:.). Double-click on the Removable Drive to open a
window that will display the contents of the flash drive.
- To view the evidence site click on the green arrow icon entitled "Click
here to view the CofC Accreditation Evidence." This will give
you access to almost everything currently available via the website. Please
note the this is only the Accreditation site. To view links pointing to the
School of Education or College of Charleston websites you will need to go
to the live site on the internet (see Using the Internet sections below)
- You can also save your files to this drive just as you would a floppy drive.
- To remove the drive when finished just pull the drive out of the back of
the laptop or the side of the monitor.
Using the Internet in the CofC Evidence Room
While the Institutional Report and most of the evidence
is provided on the flash drive, there may be times when you will need internet
connectivity to view websites, print documents or check your email. While there
is no wireless connectivity available in the Evidence Room on campus you can
have internet connectivity through a wired
connection. To access the internet from the evidence room you can use one of
the two desktop machines that will be permantently attached to the internet.
If you wish to get internet access on your laptop follow the directions below:
- On the table near the printer you will find network cables. These cables
look like phone cables but with a larger end.
- Plug the available cable end into the back of your computer. It will only
fit into one of the openings so don't worry that about plugging it into the
wrong port.
- You should now have network connectivity. This will allow you to surf the
web and to print to the printer in the evidence room.
Using the Internet in the Hampton Inn
The Hampton Inn provides wireless
internet access for all its guests. To access the wireless network at the Hampton
Inn:
- When you enter the Hampton Inn and are within range of their network, your
laptop should automatically find the network.
- Open up Internet Explorer (IE).
- If your laptop has found the network your browser (IE) should open up to
the Hampton Inn login page.
- Type in the login found on the "Complimentary
hi-speed internet" card you received upon check-in.

Accreditation webpage.

Printing
Printing to the printer in the CofC Evidence Room
You can print directly from your laptop or from any of the
two stationary computers in the room.
- To print from your laptop you must be wired into
a network connection. From there you should automatically be connected
to the correct printer. NOTE: If you do not have the network connection plugged
into your laptop you cannot print.
- To print from the two stationary computers you need to save any items from
your laptop that you wish to print to your flash drive (see above) and then
plug your flash drive into the USB port on the left side of the monitor. You
can then open the document and print from the computer.
Printing to the printer in the Hampton Inn
The Hampton Inn has one stationary computer that can print
to the printer in the room. Due to restrictions of the wireless network you
will not be able to print from your laptops.
- To print from the stationary computers you need to save any items from your
laptop that you wish to print to your flash drive (see above) and then plug
your flash drive into the USB port on the left side of the monitor. You can
then open the document and print from the computer.
