Student Activism and Student Leadership (SALA) Awards and Reception 2008
This event recognizes and honors outstanding students and their staff. These individuals have contributed their time and energy to the campus and their communities. Through their leadership and accomplishments, they have brought distinction to the College of Charleston.
Recipients of the Cistern Award, Hall of Leaders, New Student Leader Award, and Advisor of the Year along with other Student Affairs award winners are recognized at this special end of the year College event. The advisors and members of student organizations nominate the recipients of these awards.
The 4th Annual S.A.L.A. Awards was held April 16, 2008 in the Higdon Student Leadership Plaza.

Cistern Award
To recognize senior students who have been the motivated and engaged worker or member of an organization. These individuals are not necessarily the ones who hold the positions of president, executive member, or other officer, but they are leaders because of what they do for the organization and College community. The number of awards given is dependant on the applicant pool.
Hall of Leaders
The Hall of Leaders recognizes leaders of student organizations that have specific governing or College responsibilities. Through this award, a member of each organization will be recognized for his or her continuous contribution to the campus community. Each eligible organization will be asked to select one individual for induction who meets the criteria:
Recipients are selected from the following organizations: CHEC (Cougars Helping to Enhance the Community), CofC Radio, Comet Yearbook, CAB (Cougar Activities Board), Cougar TV, George Street Observer, Honor Board, Interfraternity Council, Miscellany Arts Literary Journal, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Off-Campus Student Association, Panhellenic Council, Student Government Association, SUMA (Student Union for Minority Affairs)
Recipients will receive a plaque and their names will be added to the Hall of Leaders wall in the Student Leadership Center.
New Student Leader Award
To recognize the first year student who has been actively involved in contributing their time and energy learning leadership and contributing to the College community. The number of awards given is dependent on the applicant pool.
Advisor of the Year
To recognize the faculty or staff advisor who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to student development and leadership practice while fostering such growth in students. Advisors are nominated by their student organizations. The nominees must be College of Charleston employees who currently serve as an official advisor for a student organization.
