ACCT 307 Accounting Information Systems (3)

This course is designed to teach students how to design and develop spreadsheets and sophisticated databases for purposes of supporting various accounting functions.  After the completion of the course, students should have a broad view of the enabling technologies that will shape the accounting profession in the coming years.

Prerequisites: Junior standing; ACCT 203; computer literate.

Learning Objectives :

Students will demonstrate an understanding and be able to explain the following:

1 - The flow of accounting data through the accounting system: the classification, recording, summarizing, and reporting of accounting information.

2 - The primary uses of accounting information.

3 – How applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access) can be employed to collect, summarize and report accounting data for purposes of generating accurate and timely internal and external reports.
