Bio
Professor Marian Mazzone is originally from Ohio and attended the Miami University where she received her BA in Art History and went on to receive her MA in Art History at the University of Arizona. She earned her Ph.D. in Art History from the Ohio State University. Professor Mazzone's main area of research is modern and contemporary art in Central and Eastern Europe. She has traveled this area widely, but has spent most of the time in Prague (attending the Central European University) and Kiev, Ukraine where she studied as a Fulbright fellow in the fall of 2005. Professor Mazzone wrote her dissertation on Dada and Constructivism in the Eastern European region, but most of her current work focuses on artists active in the 1960s-1990s.
Also having a background in museum professions, Professor Mazzone has been employed by curatorial departments of several institutions, both before and after graduate school. She continues to curate exhibitions and has done many for the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston. This year is her first year as chair at the Art History department at the School of the Arts.
