DISTINGUISHED TEACHER/SCHOLAR AWARD:
Michael Tyzack

The Teacher/Scholar award, established in 2001, honors College of Charleston colleagues who exemplify the teacher-scholar model. The award is presented annually to one individual selected by a faculty panel appointed by the Provost (In the future this panel will be comprised of five past recipients) from nominations made by the campus community. The 2003 recipient of this prestigious award is Professor Michael R. Tyzack, Professor and Chair of the Department of Studio Art. Congratulations, Michael!

Alumni Update

Studio Art alumni Brian Rutenberg has recently had one of his works purchased for the collection of the Hunter Museum of Contemporary Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee and will have a solo exhibition through May at the Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina.

 

Printmaking Students Receive Recognition

In March two printmaking students, Blair Ellis and Matt Smithson, received Juror’s Prizes for their etchings at the Print Studio South National Juried Miniprint Exhibition 2003. The exhibit was juried by Cliff Peacock.

In Print: Barbara Duval

Barbara Duval will be included in the forthcoming volume Three Decades of American Printmaking: The Brandywine Workshop Collection (1972-2002). The volume is scheduled to be published in September 2003. Additionally, Barbara has received a 2003 College of Charleston Faculty Research Grant for spring 2003. In February, she presented a lecture sponsored by the College of Charleston Office of Academic Affairs entitled “The Teacher-Scholar at the College of Charleston.”
