Sydney Brown, Arts Management graduate
Fall 2001, has been accepted in the internship component of
the Vilar Institute for Arts Management at the John F. Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts. The Vilar Institute for Arts
Management is a dynamic learning environment for the development
of performing arts managers and professional development opportunities
for arts managers currently working in the field. The Vilar
institute is made possible through the generous support of Alberto
W. Vilar.
Charles LeGette, Arts Management graduate
Fall 2001, has been accepted in the Master of Arts Management
program at Carnegie Mellon University. This program conbines
training from two highly recognized Carnegie Mellon schools.
The H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management
has long been recognized as one of the countrys top ten
schools for training students in public and non-profit management,
and the College of Fine Arts is among the top arts schools in
the United States.

Scott Shanklin-Peterson and Lori Kornegay, along
with several Arts Management Program students, attended the
Arts Alliances annual
South
Carolina Arts Advocacy Day in Columbia, February 5, at the
Statehouse. State Legislators joined the students at the Legislative
Appreciation Luncheon in honor of the Legislative Arts Caucus
.
In addition to participating in the National Arts Advocacy
Day in Washington, D.C., Scott will be attending the 25th National
Conference of the Association of Arts Administration Educators
in New York in April.

The Arts Management Program and the Avery Research
Center for African American Studies are co-sponsoring the 28th
Annual Conference on Social Theory, Politics and the Arts to
be held October 3-5 in Charleston. For conference information

Arts Management is offering two new courses next
fall. Dean Valerie Morris will be teaching Arts in Education
focusing on building partnerships of artists and arts organizations
with schools and other community organizations. Dale Rosengarten
will be teaching a course which is cross-listed by Arts.
