THEATRE PRODUCTION
Description: “King Lear " by William Shakespeare, directed by Todd McNerney
With poetic grandeur, stark violence and disarming wit Shakespeare's greatest tragedy explores the basic questions of human existence. Lear's attempt to divide his kingdom between his three daughters, based on their professions of love for him, sparkes this harrowing and intense story of deceit, betrayal, and ultimately of recognition of true love and devotion. The effects of his ill-considered plan extend across his kingdom turning sister against sister, brother against brother, and father against son, disintegrating his realm until the forces of nobility and love can prevail.
This ancient tale (old even when penned by Shakespeare in 1609) of a pre-historic king is set in a mythical time period before recorded history. It is a barbaric and savage world in which people struggle to survive. These struggles are not only between each other, but also with nature. Though suitable for most ages, this production does have graphic depictions of violence.

THEATRE PRODUCTION
Description: "Wedding Band " by Alice Childress
A ground-breaking drama set during World War I, Wedding Band explores the viability of an interracial relationship at a time when it was illegal and in so doing, it also redefines the family. Written in the early sixties, Childress attacks the presence of state laws - laws that were still on the books in South Carolina - that controlled who and how women loved. As in all of her work, there are the running themes of sisterhood, the dependence women should and must foster with one another in the absence of men, and the impact of poverty and racism on all facets of society.

THEATRE PRODUCTION
Description: "Arms and the Man " by George Bernard Shaw
Since 1894 this play has been one of this renowned playwright's most popular comedies. Against the backdrop of a 19th century Balkan war, Shaw has created a clever satire of romance and of the romantic allure of war to those who haven't experienced its sober reality. With an affectionate, but witty spirit, the playwright offers us some of that war's survivors, who would eagerly trade one kind of "arms" for another.
