from the Department Chair
Welcome to the College of Charleston
Studio Art Department. We hope to begin to answer your
questions about our department, our faculty, requirements
for Studio Art majors, and the numerous opportunities
to explore your interests in art.
The Department of Studio Art
offers ambitious programs in five major fine arts areas:
Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking and Photography.
Since its inception in 1990, the Department has expanded
the level of sophistication in the course offerings,
while preserving an "open door" policy encouraging
any interested student to explore Studio Art. The benefits
for students are two fold: Studio Art Majors are well
prepared for further study in the country's most challenging
graduate programs, and non-Majors are introduced to
a hands-on appreciation of what it takes to make and
develop images, at the the same time providing insights
into a greater appreciation of the art of their own
times, and engendering an interest in art that will
last a lifetime.
