Susan Sully Biography: Susan Sully is the author of several books including Charleston Style: Past and Present and Savannah Style: Mystery and Manners, both from Rizzoli International publications. Ms. Sully's books have been featured in House Beautiful, World of Interiors, Southern Accents, Ladies Home Journal, and on The Christopher Lowell Show. A graduate of Yale University with a degree in art history, Ms. Sully lectures frequently on the subject of regional design at art and architectural institutions including Sotheby's, the Smithsonian's National Building Museum, the Los Angeles County Art Museum, and Longue Vue House and Garden in New Orleans. She writes regularly about the decorative arts, architecture, and life styles for publications such as Southern Accents, Coastal Living, Classic American Home, and others. Ms. Sully currently is writing a new book entitled The New Moroccan Style: The Art of Sensual Living. This will be Ms. Sully's second appearance at the Charleston Antiques Symposium. Synopsis: From the cool, classical elegance of an
1817 Federal townhouse to the exuberant eclecticism of an 1886 Romanesque
Revival mansion, Savannah's homes reflect the full spectrum of 19th century
American architectural styles. Contemporary Savannahians have protected
and restored many of these homes and interpreted them in a variety of
ways that demonstrate Savannah's dual impulses toward the elegant and
the eccentric. Based on the homes included in her most recent book, Savannah
Style: Mystery and Manners, Ms. Sully will offer a slide-show tour through
some of Savannah's most intriguing and beautiful private homes. | Return to Bios |
