Herb Parker was born in 1953 in Elizabeth City, NC. He received an MFA in Sculpture from East Carolina University in 1983. Other educational experiences include a tour in the Marine Corps and two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

He has created over 40 site-related installations in the environment since the early 1980s . Recent work includes a commission for a nature based work at Takihata Falls, Osaka, Japan in 2001 and Akery Sculpture Park in Bergslagen, Sweden in 2006.

Grants include artists fellowships from Louisiana and South Carolina, a Southern Arts Federation Fellowship in Sculpture and awards in the Visual Arts II from the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art. He is currently a Professor in Sculpture at the College of Charleston.
