Scholarships & Awards

The Scholarships offered through the Studio Art Department are awarded based on student academic achievement, artistic merit, and future promise. The Studio Art Faculty nominate and select the recipients based on these categories. For additional financial assistance, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 953-5540.

 

CHARLESTON FINE ARTS DEALER ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
($2000) Non Renewable Scholarship awarded to student who has been accepted to the College of Charleston, plans to enroll as first year full-time degree seeking student majoring in Studio Art, for the academic year 2009-10. Complete Information form and submit samples of 15 JPEG images of work on a CD to Department Chair.

 

LEE AND ANN HIGDON FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIP
($1500) Non Renewable Scholarship awarded to student who has been accepted to the College of Charleston, plans to enroll as first year full-time degree seeking student majoring in Studio Art, for the academic year 2009-10. Complete Information form and submit samples of 15 JPEG images of work on a CD to Department Chair.

 

CAROLINA DE FABRITIS SCHOLARSHIP
(amount varies)
Established in 1969 by the late Carolina De Fabritis Holmes, wife of Alexander Baron Homes. First preference for the award is given to students majoring in romance languages or the fine arts. The School of the Arts grants this award to the student within the School who has the highest GPA and who has completed at least 30 hours of course work at the College.

 

J. E. SIMCOX MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
(amount varies)
Established in 1981 by family and friends in memory of Janet E. Simcox, Class of 1978. The purpose of this fund is to provide assistance for students in the fine arts, with preference given to the visual arts. Scholarship awarded to a rising senior. (Credited to student's account for Fall semester) Not renewable.

 

FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS
Usually given to 2 students (approx. $1000 each) at the beginning of the Fall Semester. Awarded to the Studio Art majors with a 3.5 GPA (or better) in the major.

 

LAURA M. BRAGG AWARD
($250 check) Awarded annually to a graduating senior with a Studio Art Major and a GPA of at least 3.0 in the major.

 

RICK WATKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established by Joanne and Fred Watkins of Knoxville,Tennessee in memory of their son Rick Watkins. The Rick Watkins Endowed Memorial Scholarship celebrates Rick's commitment to teaching and his ability to nurture and inspire the artistic talents of his young students at Garrett Academy and North Charleston High School. Recipient will be allowed to hold the scholarship for a total of four academic years provided she/he is enrolled as a full time student and continues to meet the academic standards established by the scholarship committee. Amount of scholarship may vary based on the determination of the Foundation board.

  • Student demonstrates a financial need.
  • Majoring in Studio Art with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference given to minority students from the North Charleston area.
  • Enrolled as a full-time student earning a minimum of 24 credit hours during the academic year, excluding Maymester and summer school.
