Policy Task Force Action Plan
- Ensure that all campus capital and physical decisions are guided by sustainability principals.
- Ensure that all college purchases meet standards in keeping with the commitment to sustainability.
- Create and fill a Sustainability Coordinator position to lead and guide the college in all instances that involve energy use and waste.
Draft an Environmental Policy for the College of Charleston
- Review environmental policies at other institutions.
- Work with MES faculty and others with expertise on policy theory.
- Garner support from the campus community: Faculty Senate, Graduate Student Association, Student Government Association, and etc.
- Submit to the President’s Office for approval and implementation
Draft Procurement Policies for the College of Charleston
- Assess current policies and areas of focus
- Review “Green Procurement” Policies at other institutions
- Monitor State Guidelines and policies
- Work with the Procurement Office, Physical Plant, State Engineering Dept., Dining Services, and The College Bookstore to create workable, reasonable policy guidelines
- Garner support from the campus community: Faculty Senate, Graduate Student Association, Student Government Association, and etc.
- Submit to the President’s Office for approval and implementation
Create and fill a Sustainability Coordinator Position
- Consult with other institutions that currently staff a similar position
- Prepare analysis of potential cost savings and grant opportunities associated with the position
- Garner support from the campus community: Faculty Senate, Graduate Student Association, Student Government Association, and etc.
- Draft a proposal for the President’s Office
