Maida Libkin enjoys an extensive
theatrical and musical career as pianist, conductor, director,
vocal arranger and educator. Raised in a theatrical family, she
has been involved in musical theatre since her teens. Among other
Broadway credits, Maida was pianist, associate conductor, and
vocal arranger for Jerry's Girls, starring Carol Channing and
Leslie Uggams. She has traveled extensively, conducting Aladdin
in Jordan and Peter Pan in the former Soviet Union.
Since moving to Charleston in 1991, Maida has
directed and musical directed several area productions, including
Company at the Footlight Players Theatre and the College of Charleston's
productions of Working and Lucky Stiff. She is in her eighth year
as artist-in-residence for the Theatre Department.
Maida and her husband, William Schlitt, are
founders of The Company Company and proud parents of their ten-year-old
daughter, Johanna. She costars in The Good Time Variety Hour,
their flagship production at Piccolo Spoleto, at Christmas and,
in the Spring of 2002, with the Charleston Symphony Pops Orchestra.
