Urban Studies Degree Requirements
 

Major Requirements: 41 hours

NOTE: The core courses and several courses in the concentrations have prerequisites. Students should plan their courses of study with their faculty advisor to assure that prerequisites are satisfied early enough in their program so as not to interfere with enrollment.

  Core Course Requirements
  Students must complete the (6) following requirements:

(1) URST 201: Introduction to Urban Studies (Note: This should be one of the first courses taken.)

(2) HIST 211: American Urban History

(3) ECON 307: Urban Economics

(4) Students may enroll in either:

SOCY 351: Urban Sociology or

ANTH 351: Urban Anthropology

(5) POLS 381: Urban Government and Politics

(6) URST 400: Practicum (Note: Students must obtain instructor’s permission the term before enrolling in this course.)

  Applied Statistics Requirement
 

Students should select (1) from the following:

DSCI 232: Business Statistics

POLS 302: Policy Evaluation

PSYC 211: Psychological Statistics

SOCY 271: Introduction to Social Research

 

In addition to the core course requirements and the applied statistic requirement, students may select one of the two areas of concentration. To learn more about each track, click on the links provided.

  College of Charleston General Undergraduate Degree Requirements
 

In order to graduate from the College of Charleston, you must complete 122 hours of study with a Grade Point Average of 2.0 or higher.

General Degree Requirements are as follow:

English 101 & 102

Math or Logic (six hours)

History 101 and 102 or History 103 and 104

Foreign Language (twelve hours)

Social Science (six hours that can be completed by requirements in the major)

Natural Science (eight hours)

Humanities (twelve hours with no more than six from one discipline)

 

The course of study to complete degree requirements in four years is based upon a course load of fifteen or sixteen hours per semester. The number of hours per semester can be reduced if you take courses during the summer. A reduction in hours per semester may be prudent if you work twenty or more hours a week.
