Declaring your Major

The College of Charleston offers 46 different majors, some with multiple concentrations from which you can choose. Thus offering more than 70 academic tracks to fulfill your major requirements.

Students who have completed 45 credit hours are to declare their majors as a substantial and critical portion of your graduation requirements are met by completing the course requirements of your major. Failure to declare your major before your junior year may result in a delay of graduation. Further, at least 15 hours of your major must be completed at the College of Charleston.

Double Majors
Students may complete a double major by fulfilling the requirements of two major programs within the same period of enrollment. If both are complete at the time of graduation, both majors will be listed on the diploma.

Changing Majors
If you wish to change majors, contact your current major department to notify them that you are making a change. Then, proceed with the declaration process provided by your new academic department. (See below)

Back to undecided...
To undeclare your major and revert back to "undecided status," fill out the Undeclaration Form and bring the hard copy to the Academic Advising and Planning Center. You will be re-assigned to an AAPC advisor.

Degrees and majors
The College of Charleston offers three types of degrees; Artium Baccaluareate (A.B.), Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), and Bachelor of Science (B.S.). These designations are earned according to departmental offerings of majors and their respective curriculum requirements. Degree Requirements for specific majors are listed on the degree worksheets.

A degree reflects the completion of all academic requirements for graduation as determined by the College of Charleston. Your major is a component of those requirements, as all who wish to graduate are required to complete General Education (or Core) Requirements, to declare and complete the curriculum requirements of a major of your choosing, and to fulfill any remaining elective hours. These requirements culminate to the successful completion of a minimum of 122 credit hours.

Those who wish to complete a second degree must meet all prerequisite and course requirements in the major field and degree requirements for the second baccalaureate degree program.
