
Internships
Interns may choose placement within a variety of specialties: water quality
laboratory, plants, birds, herps, otters and/or fishes. Rotations involving
more than one specialty are possible. Interns will learn proper husbandry techniques
within their chosen disciplines, and will be responsible for maintaining specimen
health, exhibit aesthetics, life support systems, work areas and record keeping.
There are opportunities for SCUBA certified divers to get underwater experience.
There are also opportunities to study animal behavior and conduct research.
College sophomore to graduate student applicants are preferred with a background
in biology or other closely related field. Applicants must be detail oriented
with excellent written and oral communication skills. Positions require a minimum
commitment of 16 hours per week for 12 weeks. There is no monetary compensation,
but college credit may be possible according to the requirements at your institution.

Volunteer positions
Volunteers may choose from the same specialties as listed above, but have more
limited responsibilities. Volunteers work a minimum of 4 hours per week. Positions
are available to those interested in husbandry, regardless of major. Interested
parties must attend a volunteer orientation; please call to see when the next
orientation is scheduled.
