Internship at Woods Bay State Natural Area:
An incredible opportunity is available for an
interested student in the Department of Biology at the College of Charleston.
Woods Bay State Natural Area (WBSNA), located near Olanta, SC, is seeking
an enthusiastic individual for a part-time seasonal position at the park.
WBSNA is one of the 46 parks within the South Carolina State Park Service
with its main foci on preservation and education on the unique resources
that can be found in and around a Carolina Bay.
Interested students should have experience
with scientific sample collection and exhibit proper data recording skills. Suitable
candidates should also feel comfortable planning and leading educational programs
and be able to convey information to visitors of all ages, from elementary school
to adult. Applicants should also expect to work in adverse conditions including
inclement weather, biting flies and difficult terrain.
The position will start out at $8.00 per hour with the possibility of increase
after one month. The State Park Service is always seeking reliable people for its Resource Management Division so this position will be a fantastic way to gain experience and network with professionals who will be looking for knowledgeable, qualified individuals to fill future full-time positions. Fellowships for Summer Undergraduate Research
South Carolina Undergraduate Research Programs:
Fort Johnson Summer Research Fellowship Program
at the Grice Marine Laboratory
A ten week program combining formal classroom work with independent research
in areas of crucial concern for marine biologists today. Up to 10 fellowships
are awarded each year through the cooperative efforts of the marine laboratories
at Fort Johnson.

Environmental Science Summer Internships
The SC Department of Natural Resources, Marine Resources Division,
in cooperation with the NSF and NOAA, accepts applications from minority
undergraduate science students for 12-week internship positions at
the Marine Resources Center on James Island.

The Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at Clemson University will
offer a residential 10-week Research Experience for Undergraduates
program. Participants will include those with a background in any
of the disciplines considered to be "life sciences": genetics,
biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, etc. and will be matched with
ongoing research projects that best fit their interests and academic
background.
