Statement of Confidentiality
C.A.R.E. victim assistance specialists adhere to established ethical principles and codes of professional practice. With rare exceptions such as when there is a possibility an individual may harm himself/herself, harm someone else, commit a crime, or when subpoenaed by a court of law, interaction with C.A.R.E. is private and confidential. Consultation with others regarding issues concerning C.A.R.E. assistance and intervention is on a "need to know" basis only and initiated with the consent of the individual working with C.A.R.E. specialists. Under South Carolina law, students who are the age of majority (18) are treated as adults. Therefore, information is not shared with parents unless authorization from the student has been given.
