Welcome to the online Education at Work Professional Development Series for on-campus student employers. Each training session offers you a comprehensive look at a variety of topics that will help you develop yourself as an employer as well as your own student employees.

Each topic includes a power point presentation along with the necessary supplemental materials. Please print off the appropriate material as indicated to follow along with the session. Enjoy!

Student Employment Online Workshops:

  • Student Employment Essentials Training
    A great workshop for supervisors who want to learn the nuts and bolts of student employment. Topics include employment programs, the hiring process, student employment law, international student employment, IRS & citizenship regulations, payroll and program development.
  • Creative Advertising 101
    Would you like to advertise your job opportunities better for students but aren’t sure how to do it? During this session, you’ll learn the effective ingredients of effective and ineffective advertisements. You will also have the opportunity to create your very own eye-catching ad for CISTERNonline that will be sure to draw the interest of students!
  • Hire Right!
    Learn how to successfully hire students to fit the needs of YOUR department the first time! During this session, you’ll explore interview techniques, draft a list of workplace expectations as well as create a useful and effective workplace contract.
  • Supervising Your Student Employees
    You’ve been given a student employee to supervise, now what? Learn a few tricks of the trade to help make this a beneficial relationship for the student and your department. Topics include supervision techniques, student development and employee evaluations.
  • What’d You Say?!
    Have you ever had the feeling that what you said to your student employees may not have been heard, or better yet, understood? This workshops introduces you to the common breakdowns in communication with our student employees as well as how to fix them. You’ll explore body language, content of messages and effective alternatives to verbal communication.
  • Dealing with Difficult People
    Do you wonder how some people just seem to breeze through difficult situations while others struggle? The seminar helps supervisors identify what personality type they are as well as recognize the personalities of their colleagues and student employees. Materials included to help you train your student employees as they encounter their own difficult personalities in the workplace.
  • The Art of Positive Termination
    Unfortunately, not every student employee is going to be a good match for your department. Even the termination process is an education for our students and the goal is to KEEP IT POSITIVE! During this training, you’ll learn how to incorporate productive methods and key phrases into the termination process.
