Federal Work Study (FWS) Program
Work study is a Federally funded program that pays 75% of
a student’s earnings leaving the remaining 25% the responsibility
of the employer. Students working under FWS must have completed
the FAFSA and are currently receiving some type of financial
aid. Students may earn under this program during the academic
year.
Students who have been awarded FWS are to
visit the Career Center at the beginning of the academic year
to request their FWS Employment Packet.
Non-Work Study (NWS) Program
Students working under this program do not qualify for any
other type of employment. Employers are responsible for paying
100% of the student’s earnings and employment contracts
are valid for an entire fiscal period.
Employment contracts are generated by the
employer and returned to the Career Center for processing.
Assistantships
Three types of assistantships are available at the College
of Charleston: Graduate, Research and Teaching. Students interested
in obtaining an assistantship must be accepted and enrolled
in a graduate program. All assistantships are granted through
the program of study and it is the responsibility of the student
to seek these out. Each category of assistantship has a set
salary and all students are guaranteed a schedule of 20-hours
per week.
