CETL Teaching Grants for Travel

These grants are for faculty who are presenting papers or workshops about teaching or who are attending conferences or workshops focusing on the improvement of teaching and learning. Priority will be given to faculty presenting their classroom research, demonstrating their teaching methodologies, and presenting other classroom or curricular related scholarship.


Procedures for Application for Grants for Travel

Applicants should fill out the Teaching Grant Application Cover Sheet and all requested supporting information and deliver three copies of the cover sheet and all supporting materials to the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning, Second Floor of Randolph Hall, College of Charleston by the application deadline. The specific supporting material required for the grants are detailed below.

  • A completed Teaching Grant Application Cover Sheet.
  • A detailed description of no more than two pages (500 words) of the activity for which you are seeking support including the anticipated long-term benefit of the proposed project.
  • An itemized budget, including a breakdown of all anticipated costs of the project and a breakdown of any departmental or other support (not required but considered as a plus in the review process).
  • For those seeking support for presenting papers or workshops about teaching, a copy of the submitted proposal and a copy of the letter of acceptance or other suitable documentation from the sponsoring agency. Grants may be awarded with the understanding that funds will be withheld until suitable documentation is presented.
  • For those seeking support to attend conferences or workshops focusing on the improvement of teaching, a brochure or program that describes the conference or workshop and its costs.


Activities that will not be considered for funding include:
  • Research or scholarly activity that is not directly related to teaching at the college level.
  • Research in the discipline.
  • Salary for graduate assistants, students, or clerical support.
  • Purchase of equipment or hardware.
  • Purchase of instructional support materials to maintain or expand an existing departmental collection.
  • Purchases related to program building, program evaluation, and recurring instructional expenses that are deemed to be departmental responsibilities.
  • Courses for academic credit when they are applied toward a degree program .
  • Requests for less than $50.
