The PowerPoint lessons maybe viewed as slides, without animation or sound, by selecting the appropriate lesson from under the heading Slides. For example, there are two parts for IR Lesson I, Part A and Part B. Part A of IR Lesson I is listed as IR1a.
The PowerPoint lessons may also be viewed as animated presentations (with sound and graphics) by selecting the appropriate lesson from under the heading Animations. In order to view the animated presentation, it is recommended that you use Internet Explorer as your web browser. You may also have to download (free of charge from Microsoft) an animation add-in (e.g. Animation X) to view the animated tutorials. For the animated tutorials, push a mouse button and wait for something to happen (i.e. text or graphics or sound will "appear".)

Policy on Grading:
By the beginning of each laboratory period, you will be expected to have prepared your laboratory notebook for the planned experiment. During the laboratory you are required to record your efforts and observations made into your notebook. After each laboratory experiment you will have to submit a report on the findings of your work. Each instructor will announce, during the first scheduled laboratory period, his own policy on the evaluation of these tasks. The method used by your instructor to determine the final course grade will also be announced during the first scheduled laboratory period.
Policy on Attendance:
Attendance to the scheduled laboratory section is required. If you miss a scheduled laboratory for an excused personal reason (e.g., illness) your instructor will excuse you from the missed lab work, but you will still be required to submit a report utilizing data obtained by another student in your laboratory section in a timely manner. You will ONLY be allowed ONE excused absence for personal reasons in the semester.
If you have a planned, unavoidable conflict (e.g., recitals, professional travel, etc.) an arrangement can be made for rescheduling the laboratory period during another section in the same week. The arrangement must be made three weeks in advance of the conflict and will be dependent upon the availability of space in another laboratory section to accommodate the change. It is your responsibility to obtain the requisite written permission, in advance, on the Request for Makeup Organic Chemistry Laboratory form available in the Chemistry Department office or on the Web page.
CHEM 231 Laboratory Schedule:
The semester begins on Tuesday, August 24th, 1999. However, the first meeting of the organic chemistry laboratory sections will be held during the week that begins on Monday, August 30, 1999. Key dates in the academic calendar for the College of Charleston during the Fall 1999 semester are Fall Break, (Oct. 16 - Oct. 18), Thanksgiving Break, (after 4 PM Nov. 24 - Nov. 28) and the last day for classes, Dec. 6, 1999. The final examination for the laboratory course will be Saturday, December 11th, 1999 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Unless there is a change in schedule due to unavoidable circumstances, the laboratory schedule for all sections of CHEM 231L will be as shown. Any changes in the schedule will be announced in the CHEM 231 lecture and posted outside of the laboratory classroom.
